E-2D Aircrew Trainer Facility Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, CA
The project was in flux for months until A&D was selected as the contractor with the resources, capabilities, and military expertise to get the project back on its feet and delivered on time.
Taking over a construction project already in progress poses a unique set of issues, so how A&D approached remobilizing would prove to be the hallmark of its success.
Designed for Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest, this 31,334 sf next-generation operation training facility houses a state-of-the-art flight simulator, a weapons system trainer, and a sophisticated combat information center simulator that provides tremendous technological advances for the E-2D Hawkeye aircraft. With production of 73 aircraft that scheduled for are to be delivered through 2022 in full swing, the E-2D Aircrew Trainer Facility needed to meet a stringent deadline for fleet integration in fiscal year 2015. The ground floor of the facility houses trainer equipment in a high-bay area and maintenance spaces, as well as 100-person auditorium, while upper floor features offices, ten classrooms, conference room and break area.
. . . the need to restart a project in mid-stream posed significant risks and challenges to the new contractor. Despite their difficult starting point, A&D accepted the partially completed work and worked diligently and creatively to construct the project within budget and in time to accommodate the users schedule for training classes.
